STS is proud to be part of making Barclaycard Freedom a reality for merchants. Barclaycard Freedom is a rewards programme for cardholders that automatically allows them to earn Reward Money at participating retailers. This Reward Money can then be redeemed on their next transaction at selected stores within the programme.
To enable merchants to conduct these transactions seamlessly within their existing infrastructure, STS has written an additional plug-in for SmartNS, that can easily be deployed to any of the 120,000+ points-of-sale that already utilise the smartcard framework.
For participating merchants, the plug-in uses the merchant's EFT solution to route all card transactions to the Barclaycard Freedom system. Barclaycard Freedom cardholders are then shown their Reward Money balance and can redeem Reward Money using the SmartNS card reader; while for other cards, the transaction is unaffected and processed in the normal way.
By utilising the SmartNS framework and additional plug-in, merchants can offer their customers extra value by signing up to the Barclaycard Freedom programme and minimising any changes to their existing payments infrastructure.
