ITWell and STS develop Mobile Point of Sale terminal

Thursday, April 30, 2009

ITWell, a leading manufacturer in open OS based mobile Point of Sale terminals, today announced it has been working in partnership with Smart Technology Solutions (STS) to provide Chip and PIN functionality for its new PCI-PED certified Mobile Point of Sale (POS) terminal. This new technology has been developed to enable operators to quickly and simply process credit and debit card payments in a mobile environment, and to provide printed receipts for customers wherever they maybe.

ITWell successfully integrated the technologies into one easy to use hand held PDA. STS was called in to provide EMV Level 2 secure Chip and PIN functionality on the devices. The ITWell Terminal, the XPDA-V, is now being used in various mobile environments where it is vital to take fast, secure payments, at where the customer is.

William Yang, Overseas Business Manager for ITWell said, "We needed to deliver a secure, EMV level 2 solution to a customer within nine months. It would have taken three months for us to develop a certified product on our own, but STS delivered the required EMV Level 2 kernel and device driver within 10 days. The tried and tested secure Chip and PIN functionality provided by STS meant we were able to get buy-in from a bank to clear transactions taken during the pilot phase even though the technology wasn't officially certified. Without this, the project would not have progressed as quickly as it did and we wouldn't have been able to roll it out at such speed, with security and compliance."

Cameron Olsen, Vice President, Business Development, Smart Technology Solutions concludes, "We were delighted to work with ITWell. This project was a great opportunity for us to demonstrate the flexibility and security inherent in STS' technology, whilst working with a valued partner."
